A kaftan is a long, wide- sleeved robe. It is usually fastened with a belt or a sash. The origin of the garment can be traced back to Turkey. It was also worn in the surrounding Eastern Mediterranean countries. At the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, one can find one of the most awesome collections of kaftans. Kaftans set with precious stones and embroideries were often gifted as trophies to generals and high dignitaries during sophisticated religious festivals. The colors used during the creation of kaftans followed a strict hierarchical.
