A kaftan is a long, wide- sleeved robe. It is usually fastened with a belt or a sash. The origin of the garment can be traced back to Turkey. It was also worn in the surrounding Eastern Mediterranean countries. At the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, one can find one of the most awesome collections of kaftans. Kaftans set with precious stones and embroideries were often gifted as trophies to generals and high dignitaries during sophisticated religious festivals. The colors used during the creation of kaftans followed a strict hierarchical. Even the patterns, buttons and ribbons were selected according to the rank of the individual to whom it was to be gifted.
Before going for a holiday, it is very important to make a list of whatever you have to pack. The packing will of course depend on your holiday destination. If you are visiting the mountains, it is advisable that you pack quite a few numbers of warm woolen clothes. Similarly, if you are going to the beaches you must take a fair amount of light cotton garments and your swimsuits with you. Now the packing can be quite tricky because soon enough you will realize that you do not have appropriate clothes. So, the time for shopping knocks at your door. Another style element that has become popular in the recent times is clothes that accentuate the hipline rather than the waistline, which has become outdated. Hip length clothes with empire-line fittings have become quite a fashion statement nowadays. So, the next time you go for a beach holiday make sure to pack as many free flowing cotton dresses you can.
